When you've built a company from nothing, stepping into consulting can feel like a big shift. You're no longer the owner of the product. You're helping someone else build theirs. For me, the shift turned out to be smaller than I expected.
What carries over
- Find the real problem first. A wrong problem costs your client time and money. The discipline is the same.
- Ship something small, fast. A working prototype beats a perfect slide deck, every time.
- Comfort with uncertainty. Pivots train you to change direction without panic.
What I had to learn
- It's not my product. My job is to make the client's team stronger, not to be the hero.
- Context over speed. Understanding why organisations work the way they do makes change stick.
The founder mindset isn't something you leave behind. It's something you bring into every project.
